Author Spotlight: Wendy Wills

Welcome to my author spotlight series where I’m featuring paranormal romance books in anticipation of my own YA paranormal romance release Paramour! Today’s feature is on Wendy Wills, author of Fairy Wings and Other Things, an adult PR released January 2024. A fairy and a wolf shifter passing at a tiny human college meet and discover they are fated mates. Fairies have been missing for over forty years, and their puzzling connection sends them on an adventure.

What inspired you to write paranormal romance, and what draws you to this genre specifically?

I have always loved magic and paranormal stories.

If you could spend a day with any of your paranormal characters, who would you choose and why?

Cassidy Wynn, who is a fire fairy that starts in book one but has her own book later.

How do you balance world-building and romantic tension to keep readers engaged?

I wrote urban fantasy, so it helps that my worlds are set within the real world so readers can relate. Cultural differences play a role in the romance and allow for romantic tension.

What paranormal romance trope can you never resist, either reading or writing?

I love fated mates.

Tell us about a scene in your book that readers particularly love or provide an excerpt you’d like to share.

There is scene where the fairy meets the MMC and his childhood best friend at the student union so they can discuss the situation of discovering each other. Lots of hilarious banter and dragging Tinker Bell dialogue.

What’s one paranormal power or creature you haven’t written about yet but would love to explore?

I haven’t done ghosts but would love to figure out how to do them in a way that makes sense.

If your paranormal romance couple had to face off against Edward and Bella from Twilight in a Hunger Games-style competition, which couple would win and why?

Oof in the first book, Edward and Bella might take it. My Lunar fairy would have them after book 3 because she can wield moonlight as a weapon, and my wolf shifters are persistent.

Excerpt:

“Look, Jorja, I’m going to be straight with you.” Violet turned to Jorja, folding her hands in her lap. ” I totally get why you don’t want his mangy raggedy behind. Look at him, he needs a haircut, he’s had that jacket since high school, and he literally stalked you into a science lab at night. Super hot by the way Bru, no way it comes across menacing, really top notch stuff, but here is the thing….you two are mates. In our…..”culture” if you throw that connection away there are consequences. My guess is there will be some for you too if you two decide to reject it. So, I don’t know if you lose the ability to follow Peter to Neverland or you just don’t get to eat babies or whatever it is the fae do anymore but something will happen if you two don’t figure this out.”
